Classes: Ranger, Rogue; Arcane Scholar of Candlekeep, Arcane trickster, Assassin, Neverwinter Nine, Red dragon disciple, Shadow Thief of Amn, Shadowdancer
Check: Normally, you’ll only find traps within 5 meters of you (4 paces). Turning on Detect mode (using the Mode Bar) increases this range to 10 meters (1 tile). Detecting a trap has a DC of the setter’s Set Trap skill plus the strength of the trap. Only rogues may detect traps with a DC greater than 35. Elves receive a +2 bonus to their Search checks and half-elves gain a +1 bonus. Dwarves and deep gnomes receive +2 racial bonus to this skill, only when inside or underground. Druid's receive a +2 bonus to this skill, only when in a wilderness area due to nature sense.
Use: Search checks are made automatically every round. Detect mode is a modal action that reduces the character's normal movement rate to perform an Active Search, as well as Spot and Listen checks more frequently. Races with Keen Senses are always in Detect mode, although without the normal movement penalty.
Synergy: If you have 5 or more ranks in Search, you get a +2 synergy bonus to your Survival skill.
