Learning Spells "through studying"[]
Under Leveling it says:

At each new favored soul level, he gains one or more new spells. The number of spells known increase at each new favored soul level according to the favored soul spell progression. It is not affected by the character's charisma score. These new spells can be common spells chosen from the cleric/favored soul spell list, or they can be unusual spells that the favored soul has gained through studying. The favored soul can't use this method of spell acquisition to learn spells at a faster rate, however.
What does it mean "through studying"? A Favored Soul can learn Magic Missile through studying? If so, how?

- Probably, if there are books or scrolls he can Learn that magic after reading it once, even after the UMD is gone???
The favored soul can't use this method of spell acquisition to learn spells at a faster rate, however.
- I guess it's a slow process and the method of learning is not that easy.

most of that is just fluff talk and you are taking it too literally.
maybe in Pen and Paper they had other ways to get spells, but in NWN2 you pick from the cleric list on level up and thats it.
the description is just fluff to make it sound cool.
i mean read the spirit shaman description - "they barter with spirits for their spells" in reality they just pick spells from the druid list on level up.
Hellfire Warlock + Favored Soul[]
Through an unorthodox build I was playing around with, I stumbled upon the fact that Hellfire Warlock levels actually progress Favored Soul spellcasting levels! After taking 8 Favored Soul levels (enough to just barely unlock level 4 spellcasting), I took 3 Hellfire Warlock levels and then finally a 9th Favored Soul level- to my surprise, this suddenly unlocked both 5th and 6th-level spellcasting for the Favored Soul. (This might extend to other classes, but I have only tested Hellfire Warlock with the Warlock and Favored Soul.) Bushwhacker2k (talk) 17:40, 17 December 2021 (UTC)
