Description[]
You conjure a shadow variant of one of the following spells: Delayed Blast Fireball (when cast on a hostile creature), Summon creature VIII (when cast on the ground), or the combination of Premonition, Protection from Spells, and Shield (when cast on yourself).
Gameplay Notes[]
- Summon Creature VIII is almost as strong as Summon Creature IX (even creatures HD are equal). Delayed Blast Fireball is cast with +2 to DC (being considered a level 9 spell). Finally, when cast on self, all three effects are applied with the same duration of 1 hour/level, so the Protection from Spells is effectively extended (1 hour in game time is two minutes on most modules). This makes Shades always a better choice for wizards than an extended Protection from Spells. Sorcerers, with their limited spell selection, may consider learning this spell since it combines the effects of 5 different spells, with some of them being improved, into a single spell slot.
- In-game description incorrectly shows innate level as 6.
- Unlike how it's with (Greater) Shadow Conjuration, Shades' sub-spells belong to Illusion school.
- When cast from scroll this spell defaults to the self-defence spell combination.
- Self-defence combination has code for interacting with Extend Spell despite being a level 9 spell.
- Shades' version of Delayed Blast Fireball is animated as a translucent sphere that causes a light explosion akin to Sunburst. This may look confusing or as a bug but is purposefully set in spells.2da (with some unique settings), propably to emphasize it's illusory nature.
- Just like it's normal version, targeting UI for Shades' Fireball shows Large area instead of Huge. This is purely visual mistake.
