Description[]

Magic Circle Against Alignment protects the target and all creatures within 10 feet from either good or evil, chosen at the time of casting, as if under the effect of a Protection from alignment spell.

Bugs[]

  • If you apply this spell to the main character (the first in the party list) and save the game without dispelling the effect first, the AoE effect is applied permanently on gamesave load. This means all allies in the vinicity of the PC will be affected by the spell bonuses (but not the PC herself), even if all effects on the PC are dispelled (by resting, for example). The problem applies both to Magic Circle:Good, as well as :Evil. This problem only occurs if the main character is the original target. The problem lies with the AOE object that somehow gets detached from the PC and exists henceforth as a persistent semi-independent object in the area in was applied in. This has some extremely weird results - the spell bonuses are applied when they should not and dispelled when they shouldn't. There is also no way to remove this object by game means, only through scripting (by running a script through the console that searches for the detached object and destroys it).
  • The saving throw increase against selected alignment stacks with the saving throw bonus granted by the Protection from Alignment spell, provided both this spell and Protection from Alignment protect from the same alignment. Deflection bonus does not stack due to the way AC bonuses are applied in NWN2 and protection against mind-affecting spells obviously doesn't stack either, only the saving throw bonus. For details, see Protection from Alignment page (bug notes section).

Notes[]

  • Although the game engine allows players to cast this as a Persistent Spell, doing so will have no effect on the spell's duration. Casting Magic Circle against Alignment as a Persistent spell is a waste of a perfectly good 9th-level slot. Even if the spell script was fixed to account for persistence, a spellcaster of 12th level or higher should use the Extend Spell metamagic instead. Not only will an Extended spell use up only a 4th-level slot, its duration will also be longer than the Persistent equivalent if the spellcaster is at least 13th level.
  • This spell can't be Stilled. Even with Auto-Still feat, this spell will fail if using armor or other Arcane Spell Failure causing features.
