Kelemvor (pronounced KELL-em-vor), formerly Kelemvor Lyonsbane, also known as the Lord of the Dead and Judge of the Damned, is the god of death and the dead, and master of the Crystal Spire in the Fugue Plane. In his mortal days, Kelemvor was a skilled mercenary, with the heart of a noble paladin, concealed under rude manners and thwarted by his mysterious family curse.
Fair yet cold, Kelemvor is the god of death and the dead—the most recent deity to hold this position, following in the footsteps of Jergal, Myrkul, and Cyric. Unlike these other deities, whose rule as gods of the dead made the afterlife an uncertain and fearful thing, Kelemvor urges knowledge that death is a natural part of life and should not be feared as long as it is understood.
Mask of the Betrayer[]
Kelemvor plays a role in the plot of the Mask of the Betrayer campaign. In addition to being the narrator, he appears in person during the Third Crusade at the Wall of the Faithless. He adamantly refuses to allow the wall to be directly demolished, and only allowed the PC to enter the City of Judgement to retrieve his/her soul in order to undo the spirit eater curse. The Devil Enzibur tells the player that when Kelemvor initially took the role of the God of Death, he rejected ties to the devils who had long standing arrangements with former death Gods and worked on the basis of rewarding the good and punishing the wicked. Eventually ties with the devils were restored though no one knows why, some speculating either that Ao disciplined him for not doing his job properly, or that his love for Mystra died and the rest of his humanity went with it. He was voiced by Rodger Bumpass.
