|Spell level :||Innate level: 4, Sorcerer/Wizard: 4, Other: Protection 4|
|Components :||Verbal and Somatic|
|Duration :||6 sec. * cLevel|
1 Round (cLevel)
Description[edit | edit source]
A shimmering field of energy prevents all spells of level 3 or lower from affecting you.
The barrier will stay up regardless of the amount of spells level 3 or lower cast against it. You can cast this spell more then once on yourself (without removing previous castings), although of course its effects do not stack.
Only spells which have a spell resistance check are affected, thus friendly healing and protective spells still work, as well as any hostile spells which bypass spell resistance, and all Dispel Magic checks are unaffected.
Gameplay Notes[edit | edit source]
It proves a futile spell, of course, against any fighters, most clerics, druids and bards (who usually use protective/bonus adding spells).
This is usually a poor choice of spell for a Sorcerer who usually needs more general utility spells, since it has a limited use against most creatures, and can only be cast on the caster, meaning it uses up a slot that could be used to help the rest of the party.
This is an excellent spell to have on a Scroll, Wand or Rod due to it having no use of the caster's ability modifier and only uses the Caster Level for the spells duration and not its effects. This means its application can be easily brought into play whenever needed.
