Description[]

Dispel Magic, greater attempts to strip all the magical effects on the target. If used on an area then it attempts to remove the most powerful spell of each creature. The dispel check is 1d20 + 1 per caster level (to a maximum of +15) versus 11 + spell effect's caster level.

Known Bugs[]

The DC of dispel checks in NWN2 are actually based on character level not caster level. This means that at character level 30 the DC is always 41 no matter what other factors are involved.

Pen and Paper Comparison[]

Greater Dispelling has always had a cap of +20 in both 3.0 and 3.5 edition, not +15. Likely this was a minor oversight which survived from Neverwinter Nights 1. This can be significant at higher level play, however, as the gap between caster level and dispel checks grows rapidly. Only Wizards and Sorcerers possess a spell (Mordenkainen's Disjunction) which even has a chance of dispelling spells cast by a caster of level 25 or higher, while dispelling the effects of even a level 20 caster is very difficult with this spell.

Note that since dispel check DCs are based on character level, it wouldn't matter if the spell were corrected to match PnP sources. It could never dispel any level 30 character. It would be more useful pre-epic and have a small chance at success until level 29 at least.
