Deekin Scalesinger (male true neutral kobold bard) is a moderately famous NPC in the NWN2 official campaign.

"This kobold looks remarkably less stupid and savage than most of his kin. Strangely, he even seems to be carrying a lute. What he plans to do with it, the gods only know."

Official campaign[]

Deekin is a recurring character from NWN1's expansion packs. He's extremely unusual for a kobold, as he is relatively peaceful and kind, and a skilled bard. Deekin accompanied the hero of the story of SoU into the Anauroch desert and eventually Undrentide, an ancient Netheril city. Later, Deekin and hero of Undrentide would join forces once again in Waterdeep, now as mercenaries hired to stop the drow attacks coming up from Undermountain. Deekin accompanied the hero into the Underdark and even Cania, as they stood against a drow warlord and the archdevil Mephistopheles.

Afterwards, Deekin decided to take a break from adventuring and published books on his journeys. While in Neverwinter, Deekin decided to peddle many of the rare equipment and trinkets he had accumulated during his journeys, setting up shop in the Merchant Quarter. The PC can buy and sell items from the kobold, and can recruit Deekin for the Merchant Shop once it is rebuilt at Crossroad Keep.

Gameplay notes[]

  • Deekin sells some very unique equipment, most notably unique armor for each prestige class (excluding those added in Mask of the Betrayer). If recruited to Crossroad Keep however, his merchandise changes somewhat as he is unable to carry all his merchandise to the keep.

Trivia[]

  • Deekin is one of the few characters returning from the first Neverwinter Nights game, and is the only one from the expansion packs.
  • His dialogue has many references to Shadows of Undrentide and Hordes of the Underdark storylines. He apparently wrote books of his journeys, though they only gained any real popularity in Icewind Dale. Grobnar stated he read his books though.
  • He's the only kobold in the official campaign.
  • Deekin is possibly the kobold bard Sand mentioned.
  • Tarmas also mentions sharing a carriage with a rhyming kobold
  • Deekin also mentions how this land has "less squares and cubes, more hills and shadows, possibly a reference to the improved graphics from the previous game
