Players Handbook The information on this page includes speculation of what will be included in NWN2. It derives from Dungeons and Dragons 3.5 rules from the SRD or other sources, but Obsidian may change the actual implementation in the game.

Obsidian has not yet confirmed the existence or non-existence of this skill in NWN2.

DnD 3.5 Craft

You are trained in a craft, trade, or art, such as alchemy, armorsmithing, basketweaving, bookbinding, bowmaking, blacksmithing, calligraphy, carpentry, cobbling, gemcutting, leatherworking, locksmithing, painting, pottery, sculpting, shipmaking, stonemasonry, trapmaking, weaponsmithing, or weaving.

Like knowledge, perform, and profession, craft is actually a number of separate skills. For instance, you could have the skill craft (carpentry). Your ranks in that skill don’t affect any craft (pottery) or craft (leatherworking) checks you might make. You could have several craft skills, each with its own ranks, each purchased as a separate skill.

A craft skill is specifically focused on creating something. If nothing is created by the endeavor, it probably falls under the heading of a profession skill.

Pre-release notes

  • Though Obsidian has released no information about if and how crafting will be handled, the NWN crafting skills were popular as they allowed customisation of appearance (though the skills themselves did not actually require skill point investment to open up this option). Limited crafting skills maybe be included for the same reasons.

NWN comparison

  • NWN only implemented craft (trap), craft (weapon) and craft (armor) as 3 individual skills. While craft (trap) could produce reasonabley useful traps, craft(weapon) and craft(armor) could only produce minor magical items after great investment. However both weapon and armor crafting were used for customising armor appearance.
